Mallard Cowboy Float

So this is what I'm working on this, the final night of 2010. This is the beginning of what is going to be a Tournament of Roses Parade "like" parade float pull-toy. I'm planning on incorporating textures within the paint in some areas to achieve a floral look. I'm just tweaking a few more small details and within the hour, I will begin the paper mache layering process. Then gesso and begin painting tomorrow! This is by far the most elaborate piece yet and measures 15x8x12" and will also be mounted on a wheeled base.

Mini Recycled Cowboy Angels Photo Shoot

I finally finished this batch of CB Angels and had time to photograph them. I really had a blast figuring them out and am hoping to send them off to a few galleries in the coming weeks. Happy New Year!

Updated Mini Angel Cowboy's

So I've been painting and re-painting my mini Cowboys. I'm really getting there with being happy with the color combination's that I'm coming up with. I feel like they've all been color comps. One is completely finished and I've attached an alligator clip to his lower rear to allow for him to clip securely to the Christmas tree branches. I hope to complete a few more of them this weekend.

This week I purchased a brand new color correct magnifying swing arm lamp that's really going to help with the details as is the 000 brush I got too!

Be sure to check back and see the all new accessories that these Cowboys are going to have!

Angel Cowboys Update

Well, they're coming along slowly but surely. I'm not really in a rush though. I'd rather have them done right than done quickly. In addition to offing them for sale in Cowboy Keith's Place on Etsy, I plan to send a few to some galleries/stores that I'm interested in having my work in.

So some have been painted and then re-painted again. I feel like I'm doing color comps!

Additionally, I've got two different face types that I'm deciding on. I'm leaning towards the more stylized face, seems less dopey to me. Thoughts, Feedback?

And finally, I have a ghetto studio shot of a a "finished" one.

Thanks for looking!

Coming Along...

I've been working on the yolk designs over the past few days. They're getting close. I'm going to put them to rest for a bit and move on to playing with the facial designs. Then I'll go back at some of the yolks with fresh eyes. I'm looking forward to mounting all the accessories, wings, halos, guns and guitars!!

AIB @ LU MFA Alumni Show January 2011

Finished the final revision of the MFA Alumni Show Logo last night. Be sure to save the date, the opening reception is January 7th 7-10PM. This is the first ever AIB MFA Alumni Show! I'm so pumped to be one of the founders of this epic event. We've got over 80 artists participating and expect somewhere between 400-600 people on opening night!

Dinotopia Author/Illustrator James Gurney @ AIB

What an awesome talk, dinner & demo. Author/illustrator James Gurney was at AIB this past Monday and Tuesday for a lecture and painting demo. He and his family were so nice and generous. In addition to the amazing talk and demo, Jim took the time when signing books, to not just sign his name, but he actually drew in each persons book! Check out what he did in mine!! I've also included a pic of him painting Tom Barrett's portrait. Check out James Gurney's blog here: http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com

New Cowboy Keith Ornaments

These are the first "in progress" shots of the new ornaments that I'll be offering over at Cowboy Keith's Place on Etsy! They are mini versions of the larger Cowboy Angel, also pictured. For a size comparison, the original is 12" in height, the new mini's are just over 3" tall. They too, like the original are made completely out of recycled materials from my recycle bin.

Be sure to keep checking back, I'll be posting new images as I keep working.
