Mallard Cowboy Pull Float Painting Update

So the plan for today is to drop the mallard into Corel Painter and do some color comps, see kids, I do color comps too! I've never painted a mallard before, aside from the 1982 one, but lets not really count that. Anyway, I figured I'd shoot it alone as well as with the Cowboy and we'll see how it goes. I'll post some color comps too so you all can see that process as well.

I did a rough guess on hours spent thus far and I'm going to try to be on top of this from now on. But I figure this project has 32-35 hours so far. Lots still to do. The Cowboy is almost there. He needs his yolk, cuffs and boots to have painted scenes (not sure about those yet) then glitter, scarf, boots and gun rig (belt/holster) are going to be glittered white. I may add bullets to the belt. He's going to have fringe all along the piping, the requisite tin can hands, spurs, and a tiny gold chain with two jump rings to attach the removable gun. And I may work more on the face as well. And finally on him, I am going to paint over the current wooly chaps, then re-glue on another fluffy layer of sawdust. Once all of that is complete, it will all get a coat of spray fix.

The mallard on the other had, well yeah...clearly that needs a lot of work.

And in case you've not figured it out by now, this is going to be a pull toy mounted on a board, kind of like a mini Tournament of Roses Parade Float!!

Stay tuned, I'll keep y'all posted! Thanks for looking!

Mallard Cowboy Float Progress Update

Got further yesterday than planned! Got both the mallard and the Cowboy gessoed and the Cowboy as you can see has got some of his base color. My school work is done and now I'm off and running for the day. I suspect to make big strides today. Stay tuned and thanks for looking!

Mallard Cowboy Float Progress Update

Progress has been made! Finished the paper mache on the Cowboy last night before bed, so he's all dried up this AM and ready to go. Got school work to do today, but later today that mallard and I got us a date. If all goes to plan, I'll be able to begin painting tomorrow!

Mallard Cowboy Float

So this is what I'm working on this, the final night of 2010. This is the beginning of what is going to be a Tournament of Roses Parade "like" parade float pull-toy. I'm planning on incorporating textures within the paint in some areas to achieve a floral look. I'm just tweaking a few more small details and within the hour, I will begin the paper mache layering process. Then gesso and begin painting tomorrow! This is by far the most elaborate piece yet and measures 15x8x12" and will also be mounted on a wheeled base.

Mini Recycled Cowboy Angels Photo Shoot

I finally finished this batch of CB Angels and had time to photograph them. I really had a blast figuring them out and am hoping to send them off to a few galleries in the coming weeks. Happy New Year!

Updated Mini Angel Cowboy's

So I've been painting and re-painting my mini Cowboys. I'm really getting there with being happy with the color combination's that I'm coming up with. I feel like they've all been color comps. One is completely finished and I've attached an alligator clip to his lower rear to allow for him to clip securely to the Christmas tree branches. I hope to complete a few more of them this weekend.

This week I purchased a brand new color correct magnifying swing arm lamp that's really going to help with the details as is the 000 brush I got too!

Be sure to check back and see the all new accessories that these Cowboys are going to have!
